Is NetBook The Ultimate Mobile Sales Tool?
About 20 years ago, I read about the coming digital revolution and how it would change our lives. Being in sales, I anticipated new productivity tools that would make life easier to track prospects and customers, create interesting presentations, communicate more efficiently, and manage sales reports.
The tools appeared although the development pace of the hardware was slower than anticipated. The size, portability, and pricing were not the ideal that I had envisioned. Partially because of the necessary memory and processing power to support the os and native applications.
The advent of super powerful cell phones (PDA’s) may be the anticipated solution, but I’ve had a difficult time adapting to the small form factor.
The increased popularity of cloud computing, cellular networks, wifi coverage, and PDA’s including NetBooks has finally came together with affordable pricing to realize my dream of the ultimate mobile sales tool. I would be remiss to not mention the popularity of internet server based applications and browser clients and all the related developments that make cloud computing possible.
So, with an enticing special offered on black Friday from my cell provider, Verizon Wireless, I took the plunge and got my first NetBook. Three pounds of computing power, about six hours of battery, and I’m ready to experience my dream of digital euphoria.
For anyone interested in creating an information business by selling their expertise, or any product or service for that matter, you would be served well to organize your personal business in the cloud and carry a powerful mobile device to access your tools and assets anywhere at anytime.
The only thing I can imagine that would be better is the Star-Trek solution where the computer is always with you and you simply need to speak “computer…” and it accepts and performs all your commands.
Now my challenge is to discover how many of the necessary sales tools to operate efficiently can be accommodated without the purchase of MS Office and other native applications. I’m ready to start the discovery process and share my experiences with you.
